Hong Kong Diary Part I

I partnered with the Landmark Mandarin Oriental (MO) to discover Hong Kong through my lens.  This was my first time visiting Asia, and Hong Kong had been on my bucket list for ages.  The MO Landmark set the perfect pace for a trip full of business meetings, personal explorations, and most importantly: adventure!

The Landmark is conveniently located in Hong Kong’s Central district and about a 5 minute walk from their flagship property: MO Hong Kong.  Looking out of my bedroom window, I was greeted with the cities famous sky rises atop the world’s leading fashion boutiques in every possible direction.  Even through the humidity, you can access most buildings through indoor foot bridges and walkways without ever stepping outside!  Ash and I unpacked quickly and took to the streets of Hong Kong Island!  Our favorite thing to do when visiting a new place is to explore by foot.  Ash is the navigator of the bunch, so she whipped out Google Maps and we were on our way.  We noticed colorful lanterns lining the city and soon were told everyone was setting up for the Mid-Autumn festival.  It was so exciting to see everyone preparing and decorating their posts.

Ice cold Colas as respite for the heat

I always do tons of research on the city i’m visiting to find which areas fit our interests most.  Our first stop is always a cool café since the surrounding neighborhood usually fits the same aesthetic.  I had been in touch with the Mandarin’s HK team and expressed interest on visiting a local bespoke suit shop.  After a little research, the team scheduled me an appointment at a local favorite: Lord’s Tailor.  We took a 10 minute walk through the busy streets and into an air chilled building up to the shop.  I chatted with the tailors about the style of suit I was hoping to design and they pulled out tons of swatches for me to browse.  Once I made my selection, they began taking my measurements and suit detail preferences.  Within 20 minutes the entire process was done- super easy and super quick!  They told me to come back the next day for my first fitting, and if all looked good, they would deliver my suit within 2 days! I couldn’t believe the turn around time but I was assured of my satisfaction with the final result.

We headed back to the hotel to freshen up and prepare for dinner at Amber: the two Michelin starred French restaurant led by culinary director Richard Ekkebus.  We were greeted with the friendliest smiles and over to our table for dinner.  A special 9 course meal with appropriate wine pairings awaited our eager taste buds.  The staffs impeccable knowledge of the courses and sublime hospitality made the experience that much more enjoyable.  We kept pinching ourselves to make sure it wasn’t all a dream.

We had an adventurous itinerary set up for the remainder of the week full of AH-MA-ZING experiences such as spa appointments, an in-room bathtub experience, a visit to the renowned Grooming salon, and a 2-night stay at the flagship property.  We also met with the Director of Communication for both properties for an ‘Insider’ tour of the city including a meeting with Tatler magazine.

A step-by-step guide of all the places we visited, shopped, and ate will be on part II of our HK diary.

I leave you with a glimpse of the city’s mystique and charm!
